when i was still using platforms. kahit nga yung tig 150 na pedals okey na sa akin. although better get the ones with replaceable pins. wellgo, da bomb, medyo mabigat nga lang. meron nang plastic ngayon eh, magaang and okey naman daw performance.

for shoes..yeah skate shoes so far ang the best. i've used airwak, vans and circa. basta gum sole, 'di ka talo.

btw, once nasa putikan ka na eh...think twice kasi normally konti ang grip nun.

my only experience with flat pedals are those cheap, heavy BMX pedals & an old-school MKS but the guys above pretty much suggested the good ones so i'd just try to help on your shoes query. if you will be riding trail or in muddy conditions, skate shoes wont be ideal coz they will not offer grip & they will deteriorate faster. i suggest you go for hiking/trekking shoes like Merrel, Northface, Hi-tech, etc. they have tough, grippy soles & they are designed to withstand off-road conditions. for road or bike commuting, skate shoes/gum-soled shoes would be good enough. :)

get pedals with replaceable pins. Very grippy. Ung half cliples half platform pedals, ang dulas kasi walang pins ung plastic platforms

I highly recommend shimano dx shoes. Durable, mura, gwapo
Pwede mo din gawin ung gnagawa ng mga street mtbikers. imitation vans/circa/airwalk shoes since sisirain mo din sila with the pins and trail abuse. Got mine for 600 pesos. Mahal pa un

agree ako kay sir Anthrax76 at sir pjax go with pedals that have replaceable pins like crank bros. or xpedo medyo mabigat sa bulsa ang price pero japorms..sa shoes nman 661, dc shoe or airwalk check mo na lang kung comfy sau..

xpedo flatform pedals are good bro, lightweight and japorms sabi nga nila..

for the shoes, i alwys use trails shoes.. para multi purpose, madali ipang akyat during uphills sa trails na hindi ridable at lightweight din, hindi rin madali bumigay sa mga river crossings.. you have choices of adidas, nike, merrel, north face, columbia to name a few..

on pedals, ive used exustar platforms with the replaceable pins before ako nag clipless. apply lang thread lock like loctite sa pins para di matanggal or mawala yung pins. i was so satisfied with these pedals that 2 pairs ang kinuha ko dati, one for my AM and my ht...then i went clipless.

on shoes, ive always used merrell chameleon series on my exustar platforms. parang nakamold yung shoe sa paa, very comfy fit, good ventilation. im so satisfied with this shoe in fact naka 3 pairs nako and eyeing the latest chameleon 3 stretch.

hth!:)

@jinx17, set aside something like 2.5K. halo yun, pwedeng platform pwedeng SPD. maganda kasi ang sole nya, gummy which is perfect for platform pedals.

as for mahirap maghanap.....mahirap maghanap ng size.

Default MTB shoes w/o cleats

Hey guys!

Am currently looking for nice shoes for mountain biking. I'm not at that level to wear anything with cleats yet, is there anything available that would have a good grip with standard pedals? I've been using my cross trainers so far and they keep on slipping and almost caused me an accident or two. Some riders advised me to get rubber shoes with little spikes on them. Can't fine any for me.. Hope you guys could help me out!

Thanks in advance!

If your pedals have no spikes then no matter what shoes you get, it will still slip. I am using something similar to the picture and no matter what shoes I wear I get good grip.

i just bought ACCEL from SM and it does the job well. The sole is almost comparable to a hiking shoes but if you really want spiked shoes then go for merrel or north face as they are really made for mountains and its grippy too.

i always use treck/trail shoes.. it gives a good grip both on pedals or on hike (when conditions are not rideable anymore)..

Get outdoor shoes like Merrell. FYI, there's a 50% sale of selected Merrell shoes in SM Department Stores. HTH
