Default MTB choice for mechanical engineers

Any mechanical engineer forumers/bikers here? I'd like to know how your engineering background influences your choice on different mountain bike frames and components. What bike are you using and what do you like about it? In your opinion are there bikes/frames/components better engineered than others?

Mods: This is a totally different thread from the previous one I created in the frames and suspension forum. This thread is addressed specifically to PMTB forumers and riders who are civil or mechanical engineers. If there are not enough mechanical or civil engineers to contribute to this thread then let this thread find it's way to the bottom of the forums.

ito lang masasabe ko sayo, kung gagawin mong career ang MTB'ing, yes gamitin mo ang engineering perception sa pagpili ng mga MTB components na tingin mo sa sarili mo base on your knowledge on engineering technical aspects.

isa pa, designer ka ba or practicing as mechinal steel/metal/alloy/carbon designer?

*Im a practicing Civil Engineer at before Steel Bridge Designer c",?

First of all, I am not a mechanical engineer so I don't understand where your hostility is coming from. Baka kasi akala niyo nagpapasikat ako ng karunungan by creating this thread. I just wanted opinions from mechanical engineers. Is that so wrong? Think about it, how would a mechanical engineer process all the claimed technologies of various bike manufacturers? Do they buy all technological claims at face value like other non engineers such as myself who base it on bike experts, marketing claims and word of mouth from friends?

@Kojie...

No idea about pinoy1911, what is that?

@Gundam168...

OK para lang malinaw, ano ba gusto mo malaman talaga in particular about MTB parts/components, why ask for a Civil/Mechanical Engineer stand point?

First of all, we don't have factories of any of MTB parts here in the Philippines, meaning our mechanical engineers does not practice on this field lalo na ang isang Civil engineer.

Yes sometimes we engineers have little assessment on personal preference what parts are good for each of us individualy base on our structural knowledge, pero very minimal na yan aspects dahil we know hinde naman yan gagawin ng isang bike manufacturer kung hinde naman matibay.

Obviously the TS has a high-regard for engineers that he thinks maybe enggrs have more knowledge in assessing the mechanical parts than other guys. Same pa rin kaya ngayon? Hehehehe

if you are asking us here, much better to ask for the riders who mostly races because they have the experiences on wear and tear of MTB parts/components, add to that read some reviews to gather little knowledge and most important in learning which parts/components you think are best by using the parts/components itself.

its a learning process, lahat yan matibay, lahat yan maganda, it all goes down to personal preference when you experience on using different brands during the course of making MTB a hobby or a competetive sports.

Okay, noted then. Thanks for your input.

Any other mechanical engineers feel free to put in your 2 cents. Thanks.

Peace c",?

Well, yes. I think they should di ba? There are hundreds of threads in this Forums with opinions from experts and claimed experts in mountain biking and I've read some of them. Now, I'd like to hear from mechanical engineers who are bikers naman since there's no thread about it yet.

I don't know since I'm not an engineer. Maybe goldkitten can better answer that.

Old Thread: From an engineer's standpoint, which frame has the better geometry
Quote:
I remember when I took the entrance exams for mech'l engineering there were tests where you can just judge a structure's stability just by how it looks. That's all I'm asking for from civil/mech'l engineers. Just a cursory opinion based on mechanical aptitude and spatial relations regardless of material strength and quality.
Ano ba talaga koya c",? Boom!!!

I said I took the entrance exams for engineers, doesn't mean I'm an engineer. So again, I am not an engineer.

This is an open discussion for mechanical engineers and their choices of bikes and their decision making process in evaluating bikes and components.

Actually it's not an OT question. Since you're an engineer, feel free to weigh in. Don't be shy.

what influences my choice is my budget! i won't go through much trouble when i know after 6-up months a new frame will come out. geez!

btw: i hope opening threads for certain people will not be the trend, otherwise we'll end-up with too many categories (eg: barista's only, manicurist's only atbp...)

peace ya'll!
