Sierra Designs Rohn 15 Hydration Pack Review
When Sierra designs came onto the pack scene a few years ago, I was immediately impressed with their suspension designs. The versatile Rohn 15 is new this year and sports enough features to work well for mountain biking, hiking or commuting. It’s a bit on the large side for quick MTB duty, but has enough extra space to haul along body armor, extra layers or and endless supply of goodies.

The Rohn 15 does not include a bladder, so you’ll have to provide one yourself. I’ve been using an older Hydrapak bladder, which works perfectly with this pack. I’d suggest Sierra Designs get a bladder partner to round out the package and eliminate the need for many people to immediately go out and purchase a new bladder system. I do love the double-hook design to keep the bladder in place (it worked perfectly) and the sleeve is big enough to fit even the largest of bladders. Hose routing is straightforward and provides kink-free performance.

I’ve done my best to give the Rohn 15 a go for mountain biking, hiking and urban use. On the trails, the Rohn 15 rides awesome. It feels comfortable and moved very well with my body as I pedaled my way up and down the trails. Not once did it feel awkward or loose. On tight and twisty descents with drops and berms galore, the pack stayed put and remained comfortable. I didn’t have to think about it much, so thats a good sign.

For my all-day comfort test, I took the Rohn 15 along for a 3-day trip to Disneyland with the family. Hauling enough water and snacks for my 4 kids onboard was a breeze with this pack. The panel-loading design opened up wide for a bevy of Rice Krispies, cookies, crackers and various other snacks. In fact, the security gate gave us kudos every time for being smart enough to haul all that in to keep the kids happy. I’ll leave Disneyland travel tips aside for now, but the Rohn truly was a perfect pack for that trip.

The waist and stretchy side panel pockets make for easy access while wearing the pack. In fact, the side pockets were spacious enough to store more than I thought and afforded easy access without removing the pack. A simple reach back to grab something and put it back can all be done without thinking much. And, the two waistbelt pockets were perfect for my iPhone and a digital camera.

Breathability is top-notch with ample ventilation to keep the airflow going. I really never felt too hot or overly sweaty wearing this pack. Kudos to the back panel design for overall comfort and moisture management.

Good Rohn
  • Ultra comfortable for all-day use
  • Excellent breathability and moisture management
  • Tons of easy-access pockets
  • Oodles of space to store a full day’s wares
  • Clamshell design allows easy access to rear compartment
  • Daisy chain extends carrying capability
  • Simple double-hook design holds the bladder in place

Bad Rohn
  • Make sure and close the zippers completely or the main compartment will open up
  • A bit large for efficient mountain biking use
  • Bladder not included

Bottom Line: Sierra Designs Rohn 15 Hydration Pack
If you’re looking for a spacious do-it-all hydration pack, the new Rohn 15 is a great option. While it’s not as streamlined as some packs, it’s hard to beat the overall comfort and capacity of this one.
