Planning to join the PowerAde Duathlon Leg 3 on Aug 19. Will I be able to survive the race with this bike?
![]() I just want to finish. But hopefully I won't come in last in my age group. Tire width is at 1.75. Planning to change to a slicker 1.50 or 1.25. Any suggestions of tire brands? how much and where could I get them?

any bike should work. Kung pang experience lang at not really the competitive type, pwede na. kung gusto mo pumwesto, train train train and say pare pareho na yung physical capacity, meron parin advantage yung naka road bike.

i'm assuming hardcore biker ka na, so the 35km distance here should be no problem. Most likely din mostly flats yan so even if you put on 2.1 knobbies you will survive the bike part. Of course, given mostly flats din to, against a road bike with smaller gears, baka dehado ka sa speed. so i wouldn't worry about the setup of the bike too much. I've done several short triahtlons on a full sus bike no problem (of course, one time the course had a lot of steep climbs so an MTB gearing actually gave a slight advantage, as well as disc brakes on the sharp descent).
unless you're already doing regular runs, the biggest limiter here will be the run portion. The run total is 10kms, which can be too much for a newbie runner, especially since you have a bike portion in between. If you're just starting to run now, I would focus on the run aspect. Get the right running form, build up endurance. Otherwise you might find your legs hurting already even before you get to the bike portion. Just because you're a strong biker won't necessarily translate you'll be a strong runner right away. Then again, if you do regular runs, then this duathlon should be no problem overall.

You can use narrower tires but the limiting factor on how narrow you can go are your rims.
Check what your rim width is (inside where the bead seats) and compare with the tire you want to install. Too narrow of a tire and it will not seat properly. I have installed Kenda Kwest 26 x 1.5 on my wife's Trek 3900. Her stock Bontrager tires were 26 x 2.0 and going as narrow as 1.5 is probably would be the limit her rims can hold. I have a review of it here on PMTB. http://www.pinoymtbiker.org/forum/sh...ht=Kenda+kwest

As for me, I am not really a hardcore biker. Bike ride experience is mostly rides inside the village and about 5 hours a week on the bike trainer. This is my first race that involves a bike.
I started as a runner, I have done a couple of 10milers(16K), a 12K trail run and several 10K and 5K runs. So I guess I am more worried about the bike part than the run.

kung maayos yung organizers
naka cordon off dapat yung transition area. only participants are allowed inside, and usually given ka ng number kung saan yung area mo inside the transition point. so be sure to arrive early enough to fix your stuff, as you said, iwan dun ang gamit, shoes, gels, extra water etc. in and out of the transition point usually din bawal na nakasakay sa bike, so at the start of the bike leg most likely tatakbo ka within the transition point with your bike, and pabalik ganun din. relax lang mga friends and good luck. one of the best things sa Multi-Sport is somehow mas maraming fairer sex dyan, kesa dito sa MTB MTB na to hahahaha. be sure to do brick trainings. Bike then Run. Iba feeling vs. nag ta train ka na hiwalay.

if the question is not DNF'ing the race (i.e. just finishing it) i believe that kind of bike will serve the purpose, if the bike portion is done on road, i would suggest changing into a slick tire, mga 1.5" palagay ko pwede na, judging from the conditions of the TS and mamangbulag i believe they can finish their first dua in a breeze. kung ang purpose lang naman is to have the first experience, just have fun and enjoy the race.
good luck and enjoy!
