Default GT karakoram

hello folks. i'm thinking of riding again after so many years at dahil na din sa pambubuyo ng mga kabarkada ko hehehe. i stand 5'6'' and overweight at 200lbs. riding is one of the best way to get fit and lose weight. i'm thinking of purchasing a built bike around 40k-45k max and i've checked a couple shops and i have these option for now - Giant Yukon fx2 , Giant Talon 1 and GT karakoram 1.0

giant yukon parang bitin kasi 24 speed lang and mech disc brakes and components are average

Giant Talon ifters SRAM X4, 3x8 Speed, Front Derailleur Shimano Acera, Rear Derailleur SRAM X5, 8 Speed

GT karakoram ang promising sa tatlo kasi component wise, wala ng tapon e
SHIFTERS Shimano Deore Rapid Fire
COG SET Shimano CS-HG62, 11-36T, 10-Speed
CHAIN KMC X10, 10-Speed
FRONT DERAILLEUR Shimano Deore
REAR DERAILLEUR Shimano Deore XT, 10-Speed

ok ba ang 29r saken sa height ko?
i dont see any full sus bikes na disente within the price range, if you can give me some suggestions, it will be a big help

sa ngayon mejo kumikiling ako sa GT karakoram but how do i know na original yung frame ng bike? kasi sa mga shop na napuntahan ko, hinde klasik na triple triangle design ang frame na tulad ng nasa website ng gt

yung nakita ko na frame sa mga shop me bend yung top tube papunta sa seat tube pero hard tail pa din.diko lang nakunan ng picture to compare. knock off kaya yung frame?

your feedback will be greatly appreciated

just check the official GT site and see if all the colors, decals.parts and components are exactly the same as the one you plan to buy sir.also take note of the year and model it came out.if it matches, then it's an original.ang alam ko po kasi lahat nang GT's binebenta dito sa atin are all built bikes po.pag frame lang po baka fake unless taken off from a built one.if it's brandnew.

yung small na karakoram may bend yung top tube. yung nasa picture ng gt site medium or large yung kaya walang bend.

better get a small, tapos kung gusto mo i-adjust yung position mo sa bike pwede naman palitan yung components.

I am 5ft 5.5in. My legs are shorter than an average 5ft 5.5inch person's. The GT karakoram small fits me perfectly!

Now you know na small yung size na para saiyo. You have to decide now which built bike. I was in the same position before and I chose the Karakoram mainly due to its good looks and nice parts. With the version 1, there's no immediate itch to a upgrade. Sobrang comfortable yung bike. Light and agile. Wala pa naman ako naging problems with the bike so far. It is definitely a head turner.

Ah i saw the Fluid LX too at Alterra and indeed it is a nice bike at a very good price for a full suspension. You have to decide first if 29er or 26er. For me, I chose 29er because I'm a bit tall and 29er full suspension bikes are a bit more expensive. It really goes down to your riding style and preference. Good luck!

if you'll take a look and compare the components installed from 1.0 to 4.0 pinaka high-end yung nasa 1.0, imho

Yep, the 1.0 is higher end. The price itself is a dead give-away.

Default Re: GT karakoram

after doing some research and having read this thread, i ordered a GT Karakoram 3.0. i have asked 2 LBS which size fits me and both say Medium. well, their medium is measured at 18.5'' pala. this was too big for me as i am only 5'7''. stand over height is all wrong. dapat pala i checked the website for its specs instead of relying on the 2 LBS.

published weight is 31 lbs but actual weight came in at 37.92 lbs, all stock. told myself, what the heck, ill give this mtb a spin and we did on yesterday's trail ride.

except for the stand over height, everything was good. i was faster and felt stronger on uphills, downhills and flats. being too big was actually good coz mas controlado ko ang downhill. i came from a generic full suspension 26'' that had only 7-speed and weighed 35 lbs. basta i kept reminding myself to dismount only on one side with the frame slightly leaning on one side or something is really gonna get hurt.

the 3.0 came with a mix of acera and alivio drivetrain and has a hydraulic tektro disc brakes. naninibago pa ako a disc brakes and im loving it. drivetrain is good. wala akong reklamo (ofcourse im coming from an almost 20-yr old generic mtb with acera drivetrain kaya everything was an upgrade for me). heheh ok naman yung xcm fork nya. di naman sya nag bottom out. i set it to the + all the way. im 158 lbs, by the way.

i am happy with the purchase. very sulit. will i change to a smaller size? baka hindi na. im happy with how my bike handles on downhills.
