Thanks Anthrax76, I will now have 180's front and back, and both Ice Technology. The fork is capable up to 185 so should be good to go but thanks for the heads up.

Well, the braking forces on center-lock rotors produces a bearing load on the hub's surface of the serrations where the rotors are attached while on the 6-bolt rotor it produces a shearing load on the cross section areas of only 6 bolts. Since the serration surface area is greater than the cross section area of the bolts, center-lock rotors are stronger than a 6 bolt rotor. Why the need to change from a center-lock ice-tech rotor to a 6 bolt rotor?

Because most of the aftermarket hubs offers 6 bolt pattern?

Yes and no. The Icetech rotors will stop as well as the HS1s. However if the Icetechs are used with a non-icetech caliper they won't run any cooler. The Icetech system is just that, a system of the rotor and caliper/pads. The combination of the aluminum core Icetech rotor and the Icetech pads with cooling fins serve to significantly lower operating temperatures. Remove either component from the mix and the temps shoot right back up. This is a problem with the Icetech rotor as they are not designed to handle the "normal" heat range of a standard rotor/caliper combination. Shimano does not recommend use of Icetech rotors with non-Icetech calipers. Problems seen in testing include excessive heat warping of the rotor, and prolonged use separation of the aluminium core from the steel out surfaces of the rotor.

As long as there's a marking on the rotor that says Ice Technology...then that's an Ice Tech rotor. And no...Acera does not offer Ice Tech yet. AFAIK, Ice Tech is only available to 2012 SLX and above models.

The cheapest center lock rotors would be the RT53...but it is not Ice Tech yet. If you're going to buy Ice Tech rotors, I think it would cost you around 1.5k a pair (price would differ depending on the diameter of the rotor)...not sure with the price though because I bought mine as a group set. :)

I think its the metal pads that have fins while resin pads dont have fins.

Any rotor may be used with other brand calipers.

@Derreck

To know whether your rotors are ICE TECH compatible, you only need to look at the materials used. Ice Tech capable rotors have 3 layers...it looks like a sandwich (literally).

Quote:
First of all, the rotors have a 3-layer sandwich structure of an aluminum core and two stainless steel outer layers; due to the higher heat dissipation of aluminum it reduces the rotor surface temperature with around 100 degrees.

Ice tech pads diifer by design only compared to non ice tech...they use the same pad material A01S resin...may fins nga lang...pag my icetech rotors ka tapos ang brakepads mo AO1S resin pwede na yun kahit mga old-model calipers pa..para na rin yan icetech system yan less bling fins..

@ShoxWave pwede bro, pero if ur bb7 comes with sintered/metallic pads, you may have more benefit on braking and cooling from ashima airotors (lightest rotor in the market) regardless, matibay naman yung steel niya, hindi ko lang alam kung pwede pang gamitin once makain na yung steel surface kasi aluminum na yung susunod
