Default Suntour Epicon 29er fork

Any reviews on Epicon 29er fork experienced compared with other 29er forks below P15000. I cant seem to find local reviews. Pls share as I am contemplating to upgrade to epicon fork cause I dont like my experience with Recon silver and i have re-installed the stock fork and sold the rs recon. Ty

my buddy and i have the epicon fork 29"
We have logged over 800km on it and it has been reliable. I only paid 9000 pesos so I figure, I got my moneys worth

Pwede pala i-adjust ang travel ng SF11 . Soon ko na papa-adjust

Pina-adjust ko yung preload psi to a more softer setting. ang tigas ng 120psi?

i have yet to adjust the rebound.

So far rigid siya, no lateral flex na, sharp na yung handling. thicker stanchion than my factory fork. lighter than the RST M29 that i was planning to install.

kaya lang parang napaka-fragile ng lock-out knob?

have yet to see trail action.

just acquired this fork yesterday, wasnt able to find a 36 hole 6bolt type of 15mmTA hub (na mura not hope ) so I settled with xt centerlock and used a ctr lock-6 bolt adaptor so that i can still use the existing HS1 7" rotor. The lock out is really rigid now compared to the 26" version. Also, Rebound adjust is now functioning well as also compared to the 26 " version. Mine is only lockout model. Test on trails this weekend.

congrats bro.

i noticed na soft ang landing ng bike ko, tapos yung pre-load niya sa ramp smooth. pati rebound.

question. kung i-adjust ko travel ng fork ko, hanggang saan ang kaya ng XC geometry ng Talon 2. Will it be safe for me and my bike?

Salamat

i would suggest you go with the epicon since it offers thru axle QR.

my issues with my manitou minute with 9mm QR is that it modulates when braking . having a thru axle or 1 15QR i feel will solve that problem. not that i'm complaining but it's a downside i can live with until the next upgrade.

my thoughts only.

Hi guys, newbie here. My Talon's fork is just the suntour xct v3. Would you suggest upgrading immediately or laspagin muna yung current fork? I don't really know the feeling of a good fork anyway. I have seen that the Epicon is getting great reviews despite the price. Should I get it at 10K for a 29er? What is the comparable model for a rockshox fork? would it be the tora, recon, or reba?

I had a similar fork (xct) on my 29er Hardrock. When I rode (1st trail ride w/ the bike) it on timberland green zone, i experienced bottom-out at least twice. This is the primary reason I upgraded the fork, and epicon lock-out it is. Initially I tested a mate's rs recon silver on it but didnt find much difference to I opted for the epicon.

Thanks nujsimon! I think I'm just going to go with an Epicon then. it looks like Recon is the Epicon counterpart. What made me think twice is that I can buy the Reba dual air from the US for about 3k more than the Recon. It would just take time to get here though and nangangati na ako magupgrade. =)

@juandelacruz
I have a 29er but its the other brand but we have same brand here with my 26er epicon fork there is a clunking sound every time I pass by a series of road bumps. Haven't tried tinkering with it though, but can it be eliminated through adjustment/servicing or its a fork defect?

I have both 26 and 29er epicon but I havent notice any sound during rebound. Im not a die hard epicon user, its just that I dont like to spend much (walang pera ) on mtb parts since I only ride for leisure/exercise and not to race and definitely to pose and display

My hardrock stock xcm is 80 mm. Yung epicon is 100 Tama? Will the 20 difference have a negative effect on the bikes geometry?

I think its inherent with the new air and oil cartridge of the x1..i know of another friend with the same clunking sound on the rebound of his x1 29er..however, I've already tried it yesterday on a long downhill run with a foot drop along the way and it held up, and I'm satisfied with its reaction on the bumps..if only the annoying sound would completely disappear, its should be perfect..

@Marlon210 - I dont think so. You can hardly feel the difference between 80 & 100, mine was xct naman before I changed to epicon29. XC frames are usually designed for 80-100 mm travel.

Most of the reputable lbs carry this fork. Accdg. to a reliable mechanic from a popular bike shop, there is indeed clunking sound on the 2012 models only. Luckily, I got the 2011 because it was the only available LOD model.
