nice rig sir

question lang

have you tried those on trail? how does a rigid SS handle on trails (specifically on techie portions)?
ano ang gear combo mo, it seems that you have a perfect chain slack on a "semi-vertical" dropout and didn't use a tensioner.

i plan to build a rigid SS eh

TIA

ang ganda naman niyan clowdnyne!

sir arci, if you're going rigid (and 26" rims), try to fit the fattest tires that you can. right now, my front tire is a 2.3 downhill tire - running tubes inflated to 20-25 psi.

Just sharing a pic of my singlespeed...

The frame and fork were built by Ave Maldea out of Tange Prestige cromo tubing, circa 1988, for the now-defunct Team Corsa.

No suspension, no gears, canti brakes... lots of fun on the trail

Some pics of the bike on the trail on this thread - Shotgun Trail - Maarat's New Wall

Happy trails, all!

Goys,

What first caught my eye was the radical geometry of the two rigs. I'm a horizontal top-tube fan, and I got curious about the radically sloped (even concave? convex?) tube of the second bike (with the cool skullies on the fork!) so I had a closer look.

The first label says 29r SS bike, so I surmise the geo is what it is to make standover a non-issue on a smaller bike with the bigger 29" wheels.

Standover seems to be a ticklish (pun intended) issue for 29rs. I bought a 2nd hand small Fuji 29r from the Trade Section of the board, and the small is a full 17" with a very long top-tube (pang medium na size na sa 26r). Fuji doesn't make a smaller one, siguro because of foot/front tire and standover issues.

The label on the beautiful second bike says Slope29r, looks like a cool dirtjump/play bike! Love the fork! Seems to be geared though, but its all good...

Regards and happy trails

Sorry about the posting of the geared bike. Good eye!

Both are 29er bikes.. A friend is building up one and wanted to show some nice IF bikes.

sir arci, no trails yet on that bike, so i have yet to try it hehehe 29er wheels sana would compensate for the rough ride kaso d pwede sa frame ko eh so 26er nalang on fat tires my gear combo is 32x18 and very lucky to have that dropout

Thanks sa compliment bro. And yup, nasa lungs and legs yan.(malapit na ko makabili nun, hehehe) Besides, nakakalimutan ng onlookers ang specs ng bike mo pag napatingin na sila sa drivetrain.

finally somebody in the person of ryanusuke took interest in taking an image of my budget SS. what made this of value is the calawang (rust) finish rigid fork invented by NASA. less metal more rust.

this is my daily commuter/messenger bicycle. circa decada ochenta. no more specs. baka mabighani ang lookers. everything on it is hard to find.

to ryanusuke - guwapo ng bike mo, bro! Patay na patay talaga ako sa look ng SS hardtail, flatbar w/o barends, na naka black fork at v-brakes. Napakalinis tignan, looks fast even while standing still

to sup - hope to ride with you again soon, bro Alan! Sa ride ko na ikukuwento sa yo yung story nung Maldea ko na SS. Pasyal ka naman sa Maarat area sometime!

Heto naman, my SS 29er experiment -

I wanted to try out what 29" wheels are all about, and thanks to PMTB and friends, I was able to do so on the cheap!

Thanks to the Trade Section and charcoal for the super-fresh pre-owned frame!
Thanks to fatcat (Steven) for lending me his Surly fork!
Thanks to Tomas at Grantrail for the great deal on the pre-owned wheelset!
Thanks to my beloved wifey for the Xmas gift of tires and seatpost!
And thanks to my beloved Moment who donated all the other parts to put the new bike together, I'll rebuild you soon, promise!

Used it yesterday, riding with supermods Enzo and Yukon up Shotgun (mahilo-hilo ako sa holiday-season cholesterol!) Then trailed on to Wawa via the Powerline singletrack with the Montalban bikers and the Wilkie boys.

Ang sarap gamitin, here are some observations...
1. the big wheels really roll over obstacles much easier -'di mo maiging ma-test sa parking lot pala ang 29er, sa trail mo talaga mapapansin
2. 'di naman siya mahirap pagulungin, gearing lang katapat
3. the long wheelbase is nice and stable on the trail
4. grabe ang kapit at traction dahil napaka-laki ng contact patch (and being rigid helps, talagang dikdik sa trail ang gulong, walang losses due to suspension action)

Happy trails, all!

Hi Darth Paul,

Nice build! Gusto ko tuloy gawing SS yung Tahoe 29er ko.

A few questions lang on your SS 29er build.. 32 x 18 din ba yung gearing nung 29er SS mo? Paki share mo naman yung details nung crankset, chain and cogset components mo. Sorry for the OT. TIA
