Question Re: Hardtail 29er built bike from low-high price range

Mga sir sobrang newbie sa biking world, never had an mtb. I am planning to buy a 29er. I noticed in all 29 related threads no one mentioned cannondale? is it obsolete? expensive or lame product? I saw a 29er with a cannondale frame costs 23k or so. Its a mall store. I was planning to buy that til I did readings here and never found any mention of that.

I am a 6 footer so I want to buy as first mtb a 29er, i was hoping to get a cheaper but good ride.

thanks in advance.

@exsmart - i recommend 2012 Talon. Drop by Lifecycle in Greenhills shopping center or call Grantrail Makati for other possible brands. Diamondback ay ok din, meron sa Extreme Bike in Panay Ave or 777 Bikehub in Gilmore Ext.,QC..

Downside of the latest Talon, is that its only 8-speed while that of the earlier model have 9-speed with shimano nonseries hyrdos. The latest Talon have 2 variants, 1st w/ mechanical disc brakes srp is P25k while the 2nd, has hydros srp at P30k.

just acquired the Talon 2 two weeks ago, you could actually feel the difference when it comes with turning, seems a bit hard to maneuver at first. good as entry level 29er indeed. i still have to verify its durability and efficiency once i ride it on a trail.

already tried it on trails couple of times, parts are all stock pa. of course there is an advantage if you'll change the bar to low or mid rise for easy maneuverability, but with my experience, as long as you're a non-aggressive biker, you can always adjust your bike skills. flatbar is ok to me during trails at maarat, pestano farm and fort boni. high resistance on small rocks and you can go fast even with an 8-speed.

i wanted to change the kenda sb8 to geax saguaro or aka though, mas all-around.

just tested the Talon yesterday on several uphill part on our road ride and i could instantly feel the difference between the 26er in terms of tackling turns and catching up momentum from stand still but a bit bumpy primarily because of the fork that was included on the Talon. An air filled fork could resolved this issue though

i beleive that Haro, Surly and Niner models can suit your buds. Call these BS:

Grantrail Alabang/Makati - for niner models
Bikezilla (Ortigas) - i saw some surly ss last week
Ironbike (Araneta Ave) - mr.chiang can order for you abroad, just tell him what you need...a month ago me nakita ako 2012 Trek Wahoo 29er ss, green-black color.

happy hunting.

Mas ok magbuo ng bike. However, mahihirapan ka sa budget mong P30000 if all parts are bnew. Frame and decent fork would be P20k ++ na kaagad. Deore groupset would be P13k up. Cockpit pa and wheelset

i got my fuji nevada 1.0 29er for 30k... seems a decent starter with 10speed deore group + xt rd and tektro hydro brakes... the fork is a coil spring xcr but i can live with that for a while...

I bought a Specialized Hardrock 29er for my son and was brought to the Nuvali trails several times and its doing quite well. Its got 3x8 speed and so far no issues with it. Good entry level bike.

Default What is a good 29er bike? budget 30 to 40k

hi people, new to the site. Information here is really helpful. I'm buying my first mtb (had a road bike years ago). I've been hunting and this is what i saw:
GT karakoram 1.0 38k (orig. price 42k) and KHS tucson 2010 model 44k.
what is a better bike or can you suggest other built bikes or is it better to build your own?
thanks in advance people.

Im currently enjoying this bike even with just the 8-speed drive train. I have no problems negotiating the trails in Maarat and even climbing the walls 1 & 2. Its heavier than my giant 26er but its not heavr or hard to pedal it. But Im upgrading the fork soon to make it lighter cause im getting the upgraditis bug again. More of aesthetic than technical reasons though . Btw, i replaced the mech disc brakes and saddle the day after I bought it. For comfort and because im more comfortable with deore hydro disc brakes.
