Hello guys,

Just curious, didn't find a link or post here in PMTB with the list of acronyms or terms (even jargons) na commonly used dito sa forum website. Para sa mga newbie na tulad ko, minsan napapatanong ako ano yung FD, RD, BB na pinagsasabi ng mga to ??? (nung nagsisimula pa talaga ako magsearch ng first bike ko, no idea talaga). Heheh

So, I would like to gather/compile all necessary acronyms na gamit natin, if it's OK. and if this has been asked or compiled already, please redirect me nalang po doon.

Thanks.

The "I" in "SIS" means "indexed"

Indexed shifting basically means your shifter will now pull a preset amount of cable per stroke of the lever. This makes RapidFire trigger shifter designs possible.

The actual amount of cable pulled per shift differs with the manufacturers - Shimano's indexing is different from SRAM's and is again different from Campagnolo's, and is different yet again from Shimano DYNA-SYS.

This is in contrast to old-school "friction shifting" (such as the downtube shifters on old road bikes) where there is no indexing at all. A friction shifter has no clicks or detents, just a long lever stroke where you have to blindly guess where along the stroke each cog or chainring will engage. It has more in common with bar-end shifters on triathlon bikes or the GripShift design, just with all the detents removed.

SAG (wagon) = "Support And Gear" wagon (or any other vehicle)
Usually used on long road rides (sportives, gran fondos, etc) to assist riders who may need help with mechanical issues, nutrition and hydration, or (as a last resort) to pick up riders who can no longer continue pedaling.

VO2MAX = physical effort level where a person reaches maximal oxygen consumption; useful for measuring power output and cardiovascular fitness. Make the effort any harder and the rider goes anaerobic (into oxygen debt)

W = watts; standard unit of measurement of power. Also used by pro cyclists.

CTC or C-to-C = center to center. Usually used in measuring bike frames, e.g. a 54cm top tube CTC is assumed measured from the center of the headtube to the center of the seat tube

IGH = internally geared hub. A type of drivetrain where the drive gears are not exposed, as in a derailleur drivetrain; rather, they are contained inside the rear hub shell. Externally, an IGH bike looks like a single-speed bike. Examples are Shimano Nexus-3/Nexus-7, Shimano Alfine 8/Alfine 11, Rohloff Speedhub 14, and SRAM Automatix
