@radbiker depends sa bike mo. I have the same scenario as you and the issue is once you change one, damay lahat. What i did is crank alivio muna, then after a month alivio shifter, rd, fd, cogs and chain at wheelset. Pending pa hydro brakes (Deore).
Cost-wise mag alivio ka nalang kesa acera, you won't regret
Also, buying a groupset is cheaper than one by one.
Just sharing my experience.

You will save sa one time big time. If kaya ng budget, go higher - Alivio or Deore.

ganito na lang, the higher you go in the groupset ladder, the more tricked down technology you'll have.

kung nalilito ka on what hollowtech is, it's just a technology na yung crank arm eh hollow sa loob pero stiff pa rin. isipin mo na parang tubo ng tubig, hollow yung loob pero matigas pa rin. it shaves some over all weight, pero while pedalling, 'di ko ramdam.

my suggestion on this: budget entry level - get all alivio 2015(deore sa mga kulang like rd,..), budget mid-high level - get deore slx(2015 if possible).

Agree with Anthrax go "1 time-Big time", and Go for the 10 speed drivetrain para less upgrade sa future. Mamili ka; Deore, SLX, XT or even XTR, or you can choose the SRAM brand ;-)

ewan ko lng po.. d nmn kc aq maxado weight weenie.. mas msarap nga siguro mas magaan na bike pero d pa aq ganung ka concerned dun.. aside from hollowtech me iba pa po bang major advantage sa alivio?? how about yung crispness and stability po ng shifting?? kung acera vs alivio po..

wa.. di kaya budget sir.. saka sa current rides ko po ngaun parang di pa po worth it na maginvest ako ng ganyang kalaki.. main reason ko lng naman po for the upgrade eh to fix my screaming brakes and get the 11T smallest cog on cassette type cogs.. hehe..

pareho lang po yun. a little googling will tell you that the shadow technology pulls the body of the RD towards cogs. nagtatago yung RD para hindi siya tumama sa bato habang nasa trail.

btw if budget permits, go to olx and the cheapest alivio 2015 groupset without hubs that you can get would only be for 7.5k

If you're starting from a 7-speed bike and want to upgrade, you have NO CHOICE but to upgrade everything on the rear drivetrain in one go. That's the rear hub, cassette, rear derailleur, shifter and chain.

Trust me, I've been there. The rear hub is ESSENTIAL to your plans. Best to factor that part's cost into your budget.
