Default Chain problem - it sticks to the sprockets

The chain of my Marin Alpine Trail 29er sometimes adheres to the sprockets.

It happens right after shifting the front gears (at all gears). It also happens when I trail even without shifting the front gears.

By the way, the crankset is TruVativ X-Flow 3.0, 42/32/22 and the chain is HG40.

Di ko gaano ma-visualize ang problema based on your description. Or baka may bengkong kang sprocket. Good luck!

i don't get it, too.

are you saying the chain goes up/down and looses its position when pedaling? then the RD may need adjustments.

you can also check the chain for stiff links. you can remedy this by bending the chain sideways to loosen the joints/bushings.

good luck, sir! :)

What model of sprocket are you using? Is there a specific sprocket that it only sticks to? Maybe the spacing of the middle sprockets are irregular.

Hiram ka muna nang rear wheelset with the same number of sprocket gears, just to isolate the problem.

is it possible na worn out na yung chain mo? banat na kaya parang umiipit na sa mga ngipin? ganun kasi un nangyari sa buddy ko dun sa middle ring and big ring (front gears). kinakain ng ring yun chain. what he did was change the chains and problem solved...

Naka-align daw. The chain and sprockets are all okay. By the way, my bike is only 3-month old.

As additional info, pag nag-rerecur ang problema, it's either paakyat/paahon ako (pag nag-shift ng front gears) or nasa trail ako (even without shifting gears).

Today, I have it checked again. And, again, walang nakitang problema. I pedaled up to San Mateo and the problem didn't recur. And, the problem recurred even without shifting gears.

Happened to me also sir, over stretched na ang chain so I replaced it with a new one then ok na ulit siya.

tama nga, ganyan yun sa buddy ko, try replacing the chain. over-stretched chain will also cause chain skipping sa rear gears/cogs without shifting gears.

seem's like medyo stiff na yun links mo sir? have you gone through the usual chain maintenance process, like cleaning and lubing. Clean with joy dishwashing liquid solution and a toothbrush, rinse, let dry, lube with wet-type ng lube kung maulan, drylube pag dry.

Also if ever you decide to replace your chain, i'd recommend an upgrade to an hg73 chain or higher.

I thought so since bago lang yung bike ko (3-month old). At, lagi kong nililinis at nillalangisan.

Yung isang bike ko na more than a year old with KMC Z7 chain ay hindi nagkaproblema ng ganon.

Will check it with Sabak.

@ mcoy 123 - How much is HG73?

Talagang yon lang din naisip kong posibleng reason behind this. Worn out chain or disaligned na mga ipin.

I hope these help.

It's a built bike - a 2010 Marin Alpine Trail 29er. So, I suppose there's no problem with the compatibility of the parts. And, the bike shop, where I bought it, is a reputable one - Sabak Makati.

I may visit the shop again and discuss the problem.

reputable shop naman pala sir bikepot. most probably may warranty, right? papalitan mo kaya? i think 3mos is too short to experience that problem on a chain, crank, or cassette. unless you always pedal off saddle at high gears.

heto out of the blue lang. happened to me before. and the culprit was.....there was a crack on one of the links. so kapag nag-mash ako or as long as heavier than normal load ang ilagay ko sa chain, kumakagat yung crack sa chainring.

what sucks is...yung cracked link was on the inside part of the drivetrain. so kung na-inspect is on the outside part...'di mo sya nakikita. it's about a 2mm crack, virtually invisible.

One thing pa sir, please check the tightness of your crank bolts that's why the rotation is uneven causing the chain to suck.

The chain sucking problem of my Marin Alpine 29er hasn't recurred yet since my Balanga to Morong ride last November 13. And, I've already ridden about 370 kilometers since then.

Sana hindi na bumalik ang problema.
