Default What's the first thing you ever upgraded?

I know there are basically two reasons to upgrade: replace a broken component or to improve your bike's appearance or performance. I'm curious to know what's the very first thing you upgraded and what's your reason.

i don't know if it can qualify as an upgrade since it was a change to replace an erroneous earlier purchase. I replaced a Max-M seat post with an easton EC90 no off-set seat post to shorten my cockpit.

real first upgrada: changed my XT 175mm crankset that is still very much usable with an XTR 170 one. great upgrade too. noticeable difference in performance.

My very first mountain bike was a mall bike and I broke it's chain on the first couple of rides. The mechanic I brought the bike to for repairs said it's because the chain was substandard and I should get a better one. I upgraded the chain, hubs and the cogset on that day. And the rest as they say was history.

It all depends on the components I have on my bike. But assuming everything's the same model level & all in working condition, I upgrade the fork first.

From [25.4mm,25-degree x 120mm] to a [31.8mm,6-degree x 100mm] stem and a more "up-sweeped" 31.8mm riser handlebar for comfort reason.

If it doesn't give you pleasure, replace it. ......

When I got my first ever mountain bike (steel fulll-sus mall bike), the first thing I upgraded was the saddle.

When I got my first "real" mountain bike (Ikleta), the first thing I upgraded was the saddle.

I realized just now how this seems coincidental. On both counts, it's the saddle that I upgraded first. I guess it's just logical to put a lot of importance to riding comfort. Kung hindi ka kumportable sa bike mo, hindi ka makakapadyak nang maayos.

After the saddle, the next thing(s) I upgraded on my Ikleta were: handlebars and then pedals. Come to think of it, my first 3 upgrades are the 3 interface points of the rider and the bike.

4 months after I purchased a built-bike, I upgraded the fork. This in an expensive hobby...but I'm not complaining.

I upgraded my fork right off the bat. I got a built bike but I "upgraded" to a Marz EXR Pro even before I had my first trail ride.

Clown Re: What's the first thing you ever upgraded?

My 1st upgrade was my FORK, RIMS and PEDALS together..
Suntour DURO fork (2nd hand!) - P2k, Mavic 223 Rims - 1.2k and MOB Pedals - P250!
Then after that everything was upgraded! OMG!
Including the Rims and Pedals! Kept the Fork though, its a great fork!!
