Default V-brakes / vbrakes / vee brakes

Good day sirs! I'm planning to change the V-brake of my commuter bike, since the one on it was a generic china v-brake, made of plastic and constantly loosens.. I use it everyday for commuting and I don't wanna risk my life because of these faulty brakes.. so with that in mind, what brand/type of V-brakes would you guys suggest that would fit my needs? what specific brand and model would I look for? thanks!

as long as it's metal and not coated with plastic. my Acera-X cantilevers served me well. my dad's Acera served him well, my sister's Altus served her well. Kahit low end, it's the brake pads that count :)

probably the XT or XTR line would be great. I am currently using deore v-brakes and they are not bad at all, great stopping power and works on wet weather too! :) Don't forget the avid v-brake series as well.

expensive xtr won't work well if not properly adjusted. the best v-brakes are the ones that are properly installed and adjusted. they need not be expensive or branded, but they should be of decent quality. even these inexpensive Alivios will work well. If I can buy them for $10 here in the US, you should be able to buy for less in the Phils.

MOB v-brakes w/ lever....400php @ MOB Jemonel, DelaFuente St. Sampaloc Manila

GTS v-brakes together with the lever is around 950php @ Global Craze, Quiapo(beside Kings)

Avid v-brakes also with lever - 1200php @ Global Craze.

Yan yung mga budget masyado pero gusto brand new.:)

oks din ang shimano.:)

sir yung spacer ng brake pad ay may dalawang size thick and thin this was designed to accomodate wider or narrow rim, baka hindi lang parehas ang spacer setting ng left and right.

matanong lang..kasi ala ako makita na thread nito..

sa mga old schoolers/budgetarians/weightweenies:

anong v-brake ang matinong gamitin in terms of:
-braking power
-modulation
-adjustment
-compatibility sa lever
-brake pad replacement
-hmmn..sige pati weight na rin
-at availability sa LBS

considering na (halos puro shimano) lang ang lumalabas sa mga LBS dito...and compare sa DB ang V-brakes halos pare-pareho lang ang configurations (except XTR/and of course Magura)...napapa-isip lang kasi ako..and mas comfortable lang ako sa v-brakes

As far as braking power - I've tried discs (mech and hydro) on my newer bike, but I've done a lot of my riding on my older bike with v-brakes (kasama na ahon at DH sa WALL)

+1 to shimano V-brakes :) Had no problems with them coming down from timberland and I'm a heavy rider.
Problem lang - so far some of the more high end shops I've been to don't carry the pads

I'm also using XT Vee's with Alligator Teflon Coated cables and Avid Speed Dial SL Levers. I was able to tune them so that they have soft feel on the levers but with a good bite on the brakes. It almost has a soft feel like Hydros:).

I use it mainly at Timberland/Maarat and I have not had any problems so far going down the wall and the club house.

Two thumbs up on the XT's:)
