'tho mahirap to since you're a newbie. as suggested already.."READ"... it will help you decide on what discipline ang gusto mo sa MTBiking. your 30k budget will go a long way if you focus on the sport and riding rather than the "porma" factor that is usually the cause of expensive rigs. once you decided on what discipline you want, get a decent bike (maski di masyadong mahal), leave some money for tools, protective gears and equipment (mas importante yun kesa porma). start riding, focus on honing your skills then 'pag familiar ka na sa sport and the nitty-gritty info of MTB parts it's easier for you to upgrade later. remember lang po. if ever di mo magustuhan ang MTBiking, nakakahinayang naman to see your 30K bike just gathering dust in one corner of your garage. ok lang kung mabebenta mo agad or you have that much money to spare. suggestion lang po. ![]()

The only drawback to reading all those wish lists and wonderful bling parts that is the treasure trove of PMTB is that:
1. You will surely have a headache. 2. Instead of being enlightened you become distraught. 3. You end up paying more for what you bargained for. Hindi ka pa pumapadyak nyan..hehe.. ![]()

Go for a hardtail and put your money into a good quality drive train, brakes, etc. There are plenty of solid HT frames around, look at Giant, KHS, Jamis, Kona, etc. LX drive train, BB7 brakes and a solid wheelset should be doable on that budget and you will have a quite trailworthy bike. You can upgrade down the line when you have a better feel for what sort of riding you'll be doing.

This reminds me as a newbie when I bought my bike last Nov.2008.
When I first window-shopped on some LBS's, my budget in mind was 15K. When I was ready ready to buy, I set a budget to 20K. When I bought the bike, I spent 25K on bike alone. With the accessories (helmet, hydrapack, rack, cyclometer, tools, apparel, etc.), now I have spent over 35K still without parts upgrades yet. As a newbie, it pays to read, ask around and know what you want (heart and $$$). Also, consider not just the bike cost alone but the essential accessories which still amounts to several thousands pesos. I learned about PMTB a few days after buying the bike. Now I am thinking (being meticulous) : if I had known PMTB before buying my bike, maybe I would still be on the stage of buying parts and trying to build a "perfect" bike until now ![]()

Same as me. Last November I decided to assemble an MTB ( My friend give me a frame).. We went to a nearby LBS to buy all the components that we need to make the bike complete. I didn't know that bike parts have a lot of brands and types..and also depends on what discipline your going to. What I only know is just "SHIMANO"
..So we ended up spending 13K.. then after 2weeks I knew PMTB. and this become the start of confusion..hehehe After reading some info regarding MTB here, I decided to sell my bike to a friend for 6K before I go abroad.. So while I'm overseas I'm trying to learn as much as I can by reading here at PMTB. Then when I get back to phil next week then I can build my own MTB.hehe Quote:
Quote:
Thanks din sa advise fafah..

For me, buying a wide variety of bicycle component brands for a build is like having a Filipino dessert made popular by Digman's in Bacoor, Cavite.
So if I were to build a decent XC bike for P30K, regardless of its make, i'll spend half of it to get a Shimano Groupset. But there is a hierarchy of quality which stratifies the Shimano product range and 'decent' starts with the Deore LX. Others down the line are cheap for a reason. Period. Then I'll use a quarter of the amount to buy Alex or Mavic rims, Maxxis or Kenda tires, Panaracer or Continental tubes, stainless spokes and nipples, and RST or Suntour fork. I wouldn't go for a second hand Manitou, Marzocchi, Fox or Rock Shox because of the Latin maxim caveat emptor. But that is another story. And the rest, for an aluminum frame with parts that go with it like headset, seatpost and clamp, saddle, stem, handlebar and grips like Amoeba Hussar or SARS Inferno. It is much easier and affordable to upgrade these than the members of a gruppo. Finally, I'll wish to have more money to spend for protective gears and other accessories. My two cents worth. Cheers!

Kumusta PinoyMTBers,

With your budget very doubtful you can complete this bike, medyo madami pa kulang:
Rims and spokes (if the Groupset comes with hubs already) Cockpit (Stem, handlebar, seatpost, saddle, grips) Tires and tubes You may be able to if you switch to a Hard tail frame, like the KHS 2000 which is around P. 5,000 and includes headset and seatpost already.

@nikkoguiam
You forgot to mention kung what you intend to do with the bike (i.e. kung pang downhill, xc, trail or pang exercise-village ride). Having said that, you may also consider MOB parts kasi mas mura siya at okay naman ang quality. Used nga lang. Built bikes are also an option for you. Sa budget mo, you can get a good quality HT. You won't have to worry about details on how to build a bike kasi pag nasakyan mo na built bike, if you like the fit then buy it na and ride it. Just be patient. Libre naman magtanong at mag canvass. Good luck sir! Happy Hunting!
