Default Is it worth upgrading? 2k bike

When I started biking 6 months ago, I just bought a cheap bike worth P2,600 only.

I got hooked into it. And, I bought a decent one at P15,000 (KHS Alite 150)

I use the former when biking inside the village only. Now, some of its parts are starting to breakdown.

I'm thinking of keeping the frame and replace the stock parts with expensive parts. Is it worth it?

No offense but expensive parts on an entire bike worth P2600 does not make much sense.

Why not put the expensive parts on your KHS and put the parts you remove from the KHS into your other bike?

This way you are upgrading both your bikes at the same time.

You can make it into a single speed - remove the casette, replace it with a single cog and add a tensioner. Then remove the excess chain rings. =)

Ditto that... just upgrade the new bike and pass parts to the older (and cheaper) one. I don't think there's much need to upgrade the older/cheaper bike except if folks in the house need it to buy suka or something. If you must upgrade the older one, replace the broken parts with the same type of equipment not an upgrade.

Sir Oberon's suggestion is a good idea.... go SS Sir Bikepot... Am thinking that some of the parts from your KHS might not fit to your other bike...

It's a good suggestion, ghorio! I'm also considering it. By the way, KHS frame is 19" while the other bike is 16" only.

Use your less expensive bike as your beater/commuter bike. And put better parts on your KHS, maybe for weekend/trail rides.

try to bring your bike to the nearest and trusted lbs and ask the mechanic if your current set up is still ok or not . kung may problema na ang drivetrain mo sasabihin naman niya kung ano ang mga papalitan .

@xsc607

consider the amount you have to spend in upgrading your mtb, baka mas reasonable pa if you buy a new build bike.. hehehe

do you have a picture of your bike?

sir, just like technology which is surpassed by itself...(with modifications of course)
mas magiging enjoy ang pagbibike mo kung medyo mag u2pgrade ka kasi malamang madagdagan yung ease ng pagbibike.
pati na rin po yung efficiency...
just do the upgrade with lots of research by searching the net or asking fellow bikers, either knowing the discipline your into....
saka po tingan nyo rin yung budget na kaya nyo, you don't need a too expensive bike, meron naman pong parts na medyo mababa ang price that sometimes may perform like it's higher class rivals...isa pa po para makatipid is to look for 2nd hand components na nasa "Buy and Sell" section...

saka po lastly...Patience is a virtue.
hindi ka dapat magmadali.
believe me...

hope to see you soon on the trails sir...

ano po yung mga brands na mababa ang price but gives good performance? im really sa newbie sa upgrades, so all I know are shimanos. and the alivio groupset is too much, parang isang bike na ang katumbas. pede bang i separate yun? like just the FB derailleur, crank and shifter?

and one more thing, pangit po ba pag iba iba ng series? like the derailleru does'nt match the shifter etc...

i am more focused on upgrading my drivetrain, gusto ko po ng swabe na shifting gears and tahimik na padyak. hehe.

Upgrade your KHS alite 150 instead.
If it fits, put the old parts on your "village commuter bike." You can save this way instead of buying new ones.

I had the crank set (SR Suntour PFF) and bottom bracket of my GT Ava 3.0 installed on my uncle's "bakal bike."

not bad! wag kang mahiya sa generic bike mo bro... as long as you enjoy every ride that you make, hindi ka dapat mahiya.. with proper maintenance, magtatagal din yan. =)
