Default How do you make your bike visible on night rides?

Hi PMTB bikers,

For safety reasons, I'm just wondering how can we make our bike visible during night rides? I personally have a blinker always attached to my bike but is it enough for our bikes be visible to other wheeled vehicles?

I have tried attaching some reflective stickers but it seems not as reflective as those in cars. Plus, its looks could be baduy looking but this is subjective.

Could you share your own solution?

Thanks in advance to your inputs!!!

I used 3m reflective sticker and placed it on the seat tube underneath the seatpost clamp and the other on the head tube. My bike is white so I used white sticker so it's almost invisible on daytime but works well at night, no baduy effect, yung rider lang ang baduy.

@Kuyakoy

Ako kasi more on lights, I have 2 8 watts flash lights and 1 3 led bike light mounted in front and 1 blinker at the back and a pair of tireflys, para sakin enough na yun since 2km lang layo ng office ko sa house namin.

Im planning to buy another blinker then mount ko sa likod ng helmet

Ummm... bike to work karin ba?

i have a headlight in front, blinker on the rear. then bumili ako ng tireflys, blinking lights that attach to schrader valves (sorry none for presta). then bumili ako ng 3M na reflective bracelet, yung may metal (it looks like a ruler but when it gets bent bibilog siya), i put it on my left ankle.

other than that, my clothes make me visible.

i also tried putting stickers on my frame before. hindi naman ako nabaduyan. i always think like "function over form".

Neon green lang pala yung kulay nung bracelet, it's about 1 x 12 inches.

Sandamakmak din yung bike lights, not to mention reflective stickers.

For me I used this type of bar end covers whenever I do a night ride. Functional and not so "baduy" Effective on the sides, good support for the headlight in front and blinker at the back.

no reflection

I don't rely too much on reflective accessories as their effectivity seems to be dependent on the beam of light that hits them. But it sure doesn't hurt to have reflectivity built-in with your gear (jackets, cycling shorts, shoese) and bike parts (pedals, frame, rims, etc.). And would rather have a good set of lights and blinkers than a plethora of reflectors.

Here's the setup I use for bike commuting:

CatEye SD-LD100 safety lights. The red blinker is attached to the back of my helmet and the white blinker on the handlebars. I bought each separately at Sabak Makati.

Topeak Redlite. This red blinker came with a Whitelite when I bought the Topeak Highlite Combo set from Paulinas cartimar. The Redlite is mounted on the seatpost, while the Whitelight is in storage, waiting for replacement batteries.

For really dark nightrides, when I need to see the road or trail, I use a pair of LED flashlights mounted on the handlebar. I finish off the whole setup with a helmet-mounted LED flashlight (modified-by-hand by the famous BongJumper).

for me... i wear reflective early warning device.... like some traffic enforcer are using. kahit wala ka reflector sa bike... as long you wear those X shaped thing on your body... every motorist will notice you at night..... plus of course, headlamp or muglight switched on at night.... at baka ikaw naman ang bumangga!

All good suggestions! I would like to add another trick - reflective tape on rims. If you are running disc brakes, you can put the tape right smack on the rim's sides, 4 pieces around an inch or so in length in a NSEW orientation will suffice. If you have rim brakes, put the tape at the area where spokes enter the rim, as for obvious reasons you cannot put them right on the sides. The result is like the Tirefly's effect, a rotating swirl of reflected light that attracts the attention of drivers, which is the whole point. This takes care of visibility from the side, while front and rear lights take care of visibility from the front and rear.

that's a good idea! i've often felt anxious pag may sasakyan coming from my side kasi baka di nila ako makita agad. will try that
