I don't really think how much we save but rather how much we invest in.

When we bike the engine is our body, so we tend to be conscious with our daily diet. Because personally, I try to challenge myself every time I bike be it by distance or by time/speed. When I started riding my bike to work, it took me about an hour to pedal from Boni to McKinley Hill, (roughly 7 km as per Google maps) and I was really exhausted. Obviously, I'm really out of shape. So I made it a point to improve. I monitored my diet and water intake and researched on pedaling/cadence. Gradually, I was able to cut down my my time. Currently, I maintain an average 30 minute ride. Eventually, my endurance and stamina improved also (which my wife also likes). Even at work, I have more energy and I'm more productive. we also lessen our contribution to carbon footprint.

Biking = Healthy living + Environment friendly + Pogi points

urrrmmnnn....

52 pesos sa bus, tapos 11 pesos sa traysikel.

126 pesos /day, 756 pesos a week (6 days a week)

ang monthly modification/repair ko sa bike, siguro around 500 pesos. (brake pads at cables replacement, wheel/spokes maintenance)

I dont want to be a spoil sport but We should also treat our body to an annual medical check-up . I find some active people spend so much on gears and upgrades but not on a quality check-up. So many reasons kasi its not necessary , too expensive or no time. But in the end its the most important savings you can get. my 2 cents

1. naka relieve a lot of stress..
2. makes you practically healthy...
3. change of perspective in life...medyo calmado na ako in terms of vulcanic anger rising
4. you make a lot of friends...
5. you start to care about your environment...meaning di lang nature..pati concern sa family
6. makes you responsible for the well being for other bikers..who don't care to wear a helmet during rides...
...practically it is all priceless..
7. Makes your sex life more enjoyable...yeah biking makes you a Sexual Tyrannosaurus Rex sa me asawa...sa wala pa makes you horny

I have a bike and a motorcycle. 20 kms is the distance from home to office back and forth so less than 50 pesos matitipid if I bike. But I save time if I use my motorbike and less hassle pa, so I use my motorbike instead. Time is also money.

I 'm just a weekend recreationional biker and happy with it.

@rgv26

Thanks for the insight of bike vs motorcycle. I bike 36kms total distance everyday and I'm thinking of just getting a motocycle. Admittedly, biking that far everyday is tiring and takes it's toll on the body.

I'm wondering though, is the 50php difference already inclusive of misc expenses of motorcycle ownership like, maintenance, and registration?

5Ophp is only the cost for the gas excluding maintenance and registration. Parking fee is another thing to consider if your office cannot provide free parking that would mean extra cost.

But what matter to me most is the stressful and risky condition I may be exposed in biking to work going to Ortigas CBD from QC plus the risk of bike theft.

IMO bike to work is favorable only depending on road conditions like if the government can provide a safe bike lane.

For those with motorcycle or car, we contribute in saving mother earth for the future of our children. It may not be that great as of now... pero if all Pinoys that are capable to bike to work at least 2x a week, it will make a difference...

Case to case basis ang bike to work, you need to calculate the risks, depende sa lugar.. So its up to the individual to calculate kung mas importante ba yung matitipid nya na pera or yung macocontribute nya sa environment over sa pwedeng perwisyo at mas malaking gastos pag maaksidente or kung ano pang mas grabeng mangyari.. Again if the area or bike route is relatively and generally safe, mas makakatipid ka sa bike to work, in my case, kung sa pamasahe mga 2k per month. Nga pala I dont do bike to work since napakadelikado ng ruta at oras ng byahe ko so i rather spend 2k a month for safer travel, and i just ride my bike to 50-100kms far places na safe at maganda ang view.

Anyway, back to topic.

May gas everyday is averaging 200-250 pesos plus 150 parking.

350 x 5 = 1750 per week savings / 7000 per month savings.

If I will bike to work for 10 months to 1 year. Makakabili ako ng Full-Sus ... hehehe.

Sounds a good plan isn't it ? hehehe

700/month, I'm out at 12 noon so the extreme heat is my only enemy.
Katakot ang heat-stroke so todo hydrate before each ride home.
