Default 2011 Giro Helmets

RSSFeed from Bikereviews.com

2011 seems to be a great year for Giro, first they debut the Xar Helmet, but a new retention system called Roc Loc 5 will appear on the 2011 models.

Comparing the Roc Loc 5 to the previous retention device, the Roc Loc 5 is 40% lighter. More importantly, you can adjust the system with one hand, plus better vertical adjustment. Tested well over 6,000 cyclists in the Giro lab, and the verdict was the system is more durable. Six different road and mountain bike helmets will release in 2011 from Giro, which will use the Roc Loc 5.

The 2011 Giro road helmets are the Ionos, Atmos, Advantage 2, and Saros. 2011 Giro mountain helmets include the Xar, Athlon, and Hex.

First off we have Giro flagship helmet, the Ionos, which retails for $235. 2011 Ionos is the lightest (due to the Roc Loc 5) and is the most ventilated helmet. Including 21 vents, and was perfected in a wind tunnel. Two Lance Armstrong Ionos will release that he wore in the 2010 Tour de France.

If your looking for a helmet at a budget price, the Saros is right up your alley with a MSRP of $125. The Saros comes with a Roc Loc 5, and its intended use is for road.

Second model down is the Stalwart Atmos, retail is $180. Resembling the Ionos, the Stalwart Atmos uses a composite sub frame known as I.C.S.

2011 Giro Prolight helmet will cost you $200, and takes on a old school look. Everything is the same on this model, and sadly will not feature the Roc Loc 5.

Retailing for $165 is the Advantage 2, a time trial helmet that looks the same, but has added the Roc Loc 5.

Hands down, the Xar will make the biggest noise in 2011, and is the premier mountain bike helmet from Giro. As you can expect, the Xar will come with the Roc Loc 5 retention system.

Built for cross country racing, the Athlon weighs 312 grams and comes visor. Retail is $135.

The cheapest for 2011 Giro mountain bike helmets is the Hex, msrp is $90. Keeping the same look, with the only difference is the added Roc Loc 5.
