Default Re: 27.72lbs/12.580kg Jet9 RDO Carbon na bigat parin. :P

@acegica, since you have experience in building your own wheels can you please give me comments on what I have found lurking on net.

here it is:
Hubs: Chirs King ISO disc
Weight: Front 164g
Rear 336g
Price: $568 pair

Rims: Stan's No tubes ZTR crest 24.4 wide, 15.8 deep
Weight: Pair 760g
Price: $168 pair

Spokes: DT Airolite race spokes
Weight: 139g 32spokes
Price: $3.15 I'm not sure if the price multiply by 32 or is it a set

Nipples: Wheel builder high strength aluminium
Weight: 9.90g
Price: $4.5 I'm not sure if the price multiply by 32 or is it a set

Total Weight: 1,408.9g
Total Price $743.65

I know that the price on net is a lot less compare to local shops but at least we have an idea.
Now My question is.
Are they available at local shop here in manila?
Is it the best set up? In term of weight and durability?
Looking at crossmax SLR weight for pair is 1,620g heavier by 211.1g and more expensive tag @ $999.99
My curent wheels is sun ringle weight is 1840g it is heavier by 431.1g

Thanks!

Had the chance of helping somebody build different 29er wheelsets...
Weight includes wheelset, cogs, tubeless tires.

Stan Crest + Hope + XT cogs + Maxxis Icon = 8 lbs plus (even heavier than the CB)
Crank Brothers Cobalt 3 + XT cogs + Continental Race King= 8LBS, 10 OZ.
SL + Industry 9 hubs + XTR cogs + RaRa = 8LBS, 6 OZ.
Am Classic RACE + XTR cogs + Schwalbe Furious Fred = 6LBS, 6 OZ.

the lightest by a margin of two pounds is the Am Classic Race... with of course the furious freds (360g vs. 500+g)

Installed in an Air 9 RDO, xtr, rigid fork, etc. = around 18+ lbs.
I believe the JEt 9 RDO set up is sub 25lbs. (carbon RDO, xtr, XX fork, CB wheelset)

if I would upgrade something in my bike, it would be getting the Am Classic race wheelset. :-)

Smile Re: 27.72lbs/12.580kg Jet9 RDO Carbon na bigat parin. :P

I have a 23 lb full sus trek bike with aluminum frame.

drive system: full xtr
Cockpit ; full carbon
fork: rockshox reb blackbox
wheelset:xt
tires: kendalite
chain: kmc gold

suggestion to bring your bike down to the lowest possible ( dependent on Php). buy a cheap digital scale from DIY

- start with the wheelset and tires. make some research on the lightest piece available on trade central.
- Go for your cranks
- then your cogs and chain
- then the fork
-last is your cockpit.

Thanks for the inputs guys. My plan for next year is to get SLR wheelset and will try specialized tires. Then drivetrain if not yet satisfied. This is if doomsday will not push thru tomorrow. Ha ha ha. :D

Kung mag Specialized ka make sure you get the S-Works versions, not the Controls if weight and low rolling resistance is important to you.

Baka makatulong, Also have jet 9 rdo, my build is 25.4 lbs

Cockpit: easton ec70 bar, ea70 stem, ea70 post (almost same weight as niner rdo, ec70 bar mas magaan sa rdo bar)
Group/brakes: sram X0 2x10 except cog,
Cassete: xg-1090(208g only)
Wheelset: eastom xct
Tires: rocket ron, stans sealant
Fork: fork rlc fit

Tama ka nga, kulang sa kapit sa maarat yung rocket ron.

Plan to change:
Seatpost : cb cobalt 11 (150g vs niner 220-240g)
Want to change pero unlikely:
Cobalt 3 wheelset

magaan na yang setup mo, naka fullsus 29er ka at 12.58kg. i'm on a hardtail 29er and mine is just 1kg lighter than yours.
just be careful not to make your bike too light as it would sacrifice traction on the trails.

just to share, coming from a deore 2009 groupset going to a 2012 xt groupset saved 3lbs for my bike. If you have the budget, di siguro malaking jump from slx to xt but slx to x0 would be better

Share ko lng sir. Mine is 29er xtc composite, mavic crossmax st, xtr group set with 2x10 crank set, easton ec 90 hb and seatpost, schwalbe tubeless tires, prologo saddle, giant carbon contact slr stem total weight 10.6k. 2x10 crank best for 29er. For trail 2x10 din best. Shocks ko Reba lang for future upgrade. Difference lang natin most like yung rear shocks mo. Thanks

Wow, so many inputs on 29ner's. .

Just sharing my inputs on weight reduction, Really nice to hear feedback on AMerican Classic Hubs, truly its very light, much lighter than xt, xtr or Hope evo II on my digital scale. .

But after riding a long DH at bataan killer loop, at my body weight 220lbs plus. . .(i cracked a carbon seatpost in Dimalupig trail with a AM setup before), the stock bearings of th AM classic, front broke down, replaced it with 3.2k bearings and after a fe rides, likod naman. . Maybe if your 150lbs or less, a 27 lbs 29ner would be heavy for you, but for big riders like me, 27 lbs is very light weight:-)
