wall 1 and wall 2 is where i'm most afraid of speeding, i limit my speed to 40kph max downhill . mas gusto ko pang mabilis sa off road kaysa sa pavement. what i observe on the wall is ung mga veteran ang mababagal and ung mga newbies ang mabibilis pababa. maybe its because the veterans knows and have experienced whats going to happen when bike and biker meets pavement. hehe

+1 po ako dito. isa ako sa mga nakaranas ng bangis ng wall (siko), mula noon ay nirerespeto ko na ang lugar na ito at isa sa mga natutunan ko, "know your limit" at "triple ingat" dapat.

I just rode solo this morning at Timberland, and ask the people @ Biker's Cafe' if they knew about the said accident, they said they haven't heard any recent death or accident. I also saw an Ambulance doing rounds at the Wall....

RIP to his family.. madalas ako sa the wall umaakyat. at nakakatakot nga talaga yung siko na yan pag descend.. minsan pag pa ascend ako sa siko, ako na ang sumisilip sa likod kung may sasakyan para maalert na agad ung mga bike na padescend. ako pa yung natatakot para sa kanila e. minsan may nakikita din ako matitigas ang ulo (or maybe, literally ), walang helmet tapos mabibilis pa ang descend.

first of all, condolence to the family of maporms.

next is i would like to second dragunov's observation on this one.

i may not be a veteran yet, but i know that as a biker, i know where to always put myself, and it's always on the side of caution and safety. every time i descend the accident-ridden wall, pagbaba pa lang dun sa may kainan sa taas ay naka feather na agad ang aking brakes because bikes are not like cars where you can do sudden stops (i.e. equipped with ABS), so when you know that you are doing fast descents it is a MUST that you should kill your speed by feathering the brakes and controlling your speed to your desired and safe level (in my case, i never let my speed reach 30kph para madali pa makatalon in case may aberya).

RIDE SAFE ALWAYS MGA KAPADYAK!!!!!!!!!

Namatay pala siya. I saw him when he was rushed by an ambulance last weekend. Condolence. The accident occurred on that steep road near the Timberland Clubhouse. Last month, one Sunday afternoon, I also saw one guy actually still have his fork stuck to his neck while waiting for the ambulance at the Siko. I hope he survived. Beware riders, especially in the afternoon when the ambulance is no longer on site. It took almost an hour for an ambulance to arrive that day. Bodjie Pangan of Biker's Cafe has had to call the mayor's wife for it to finally come. To me and my wife, these are grim reminders to just go back to walking down with our bikes. additional exercise pa. Anyway the challenge is climbing up without dismount and not zooming down just like that bolo-welding daredevil with a very cranky bike sans brake system. He's been down a couple of times but he is still at it. Huwag pamarisan.

True confession: Nung first time ko bumaba ng siko, takot ako... kaya mabagal. And it was good for me kasi "mall bike" lang ang gamit ko nun (with no-name v-brakes). Then when I got a "proper MTB" -- yung meron nang Shimano non-series disc brakes (mech/cable) -- mas naging daredevil ako hanggang sa umabot close to 70kph ang speed ko pababa. Adrenalin junkie, I was.

Pero I observe myself nowadays, ngayong older na ko, that I no longer seek that speed rush. I still enjoy downhilling pero mas controlled na ngayon.... and I really don't care if it's much slower than before.

So I think what Dragunov said is very true. I hope yung mga newbies and not-so-newbies become "old".... or rather "more mature".... pagdating sa mga ganitong bagay.

As I always point out it is better to invest in a good brake above all else. Rather than spending for blings I do not need, A good brake will save your life. And it is the most used item you have aside from your shifters and cranks.

Tama, a good brake and a good tire, braking will be useless din if you have a tire blowout when skidding.
