Yes also experienced it with mountain bikers, pedestrians, motorist, etc., in short almost everyone acts like kings of the road sometimes not only roadies.

you must understand why road bikers are such. Although may brakes sila, its not that simple to use especially when they are riding in a peloton. They are running fast that braking might mean cutting their momentum. road biking is a different discipline. unlike Mtb which is for skills, roadbikes focus on speed.

i agree with bobbyrosal. it doesnt mean na may na experience tayong di maganda from a certain group of people, ganun na lahat sila. i live in antipolo and its safe to say that there are a lot of bike traffic here in our area. in my short time riding i have never experienced any biker either road or mtb acting like they own the road. in fact in my experience, roadies are the first to greet and start a conversation pag nagkasabay sa kalsada. but i cant go out and say that all roadies here are pleasant and courteous kase im sure meron jan iilan na hindi. same goes for people on mtb.

+1 on what bobbyrosal and Bencman has said.

I'm a mountain biker too but more of a roadie. I smile and say hi and excuse me and sometimes even "sir pa-overtake ha" but people rarely notice. I too tend to shout "bike bike bike" especially when training.

Boribot - you have to understand that when we train its similar to someone riding downhill, we cant just stop and say hi or think of hurting other people's feelings because if we do we can get hurt ourselves and when we get hurt we get hurt really bad.

Here's my collarbone in an accident during training 3 weeks ago. I was training and was running at 42kph when a motorcycle suddenly decided to stop and fix his jacket. I was on the bike lane in daang hari. Brakes at manibela ba kamo? I'd be happy to lend you my bike and try to brake and steer at 42kph while on the aero bar.

Justdaman is right - there's no other place for us to train - sa kalsada lang talaga.

i agree with this.. and i understand roadies.. they yell not because they feel they own the road, but to let people know of their presence lang. minsan nga nag thank you pa sila pag lampas nila.

That's not the idea. Yelling "bike" means "be alert, you might cause a crash and pileup". Roadies are supposed go a a much faster pace than mountainbikes, and do so in close formation or should I say "peloton". The bikes are designed for that kind of group riding in extended periods of time. They reach speeds up to 60kph on flats with nothing more than a styrofoam helmet and skin tight lycra to protect them if they crash. They signal much like motorists on their intentions. They always form at most two lines when they travel. It's their discipline.

Should anyone or anything disrupt the pace like cutting them off or stopping/turning abruptly, it could and most likely would cause an accident with not just the one on the front of the peloton but all of the riders with the pack. One example to point out was the last 7Eleven Tour500, where sadly many MTBers pissed off a lot of roadies for being brash and reckless, causing some accidents with the roadies.

Almost all of MTBers I have encountered do not know how to ride straight and fast, tend to swerve left and right much like a motorcyclist during rush hour, unmindful of the other riders around him. Can't blame them partly because group riding is not their discipline, but I'd prefer they have the discipline of a roadie. It would make mass rides a lot safer.

So sir you have to understand that every time they yell at you. Nobody wants to get hurt due to the negligence of others.

Mahirap ba talagang intindihin ang "share the road"?

Kapag naka MTB mag overtake sa akin may good morning pa, batingting or Hi hello and medyo kwehtuhan ng konti hehehek

like naexperience ko last Good Friday April 6 my route was Dasma to NAIc Cavite

May mga naabutan akong group ng mga MTB group from Tanza and nakisabay ako ayun good reception naman and sabi ko mauuna na ako kasi may hinahabol na time.

Then when i was in Trece to Naic Road... May isang group ng Road Bikes cguro around 7 to 8 persons isa pang babae dun with a convoy na pajero sa likod,

uuuuy flame wars, he he he. masaya 'to.

back to topic.

i've had my share of nasabihang "bike, bike, bike". nung una, ganyan din feeling ko, offended. pero nung sumubok akong sumama sa peloton (on an mtb) and riding at 40 - 50 kph, nun ko naintindihan kung bakit. at tama ang naunang posts, it's more of a "be alert, incoming" than a "we're fast so get out of the way".

ang sa akin lang, more of a bike commuter point of view, lahat tayo gumagamit ng kalsada, let's keep the speed at almost the same as everyone on the road. kung lahat tumatakbo ng 30 kph, let's try to match that or get near that speed, huwag naman yung pasyal pace

the thing is, not everyone knows the other group's 'reality'. it's clear when you explain it in this forum, but when you're out on the street, it still sounds rude di ba? Me I get it if I hear someone shouting bike bike, and when I run in UP I also make it a point to look behind before changing directions. But that's coz I'm a biker as well. Can't really expect that from other people (heck, kahit running may nakakaharang pa rin sa akin).

you could argue that you don't want to lose momentum and waste gas when driving your car so you will honk on everyone on the road to get out of the way. good intent on your part, walang personalan, pero still comes out rude right?

thing is, when you're on a bike, if it's car, talo ka so iwas na lang. and wala na tayo magagawa, sira-ulo ang maraming drivers sa Metro Manila. And nobody really respects those bike lanes also.

if it's a pedestrian, i would like to think pedestrians are always top priority. just because you are in control, does not mean the other person perceives you are in control di ba?

So what's a roadie to do? I honestly don't know, maybe find areas that don't have a lot of traffic, or have like a velodrome or something where you can just focus on speed etc.
