Good Day!
Newbie din po ako. I bought my bike last December 2009 at around 2K from a local bike shop. From there, upgrade lang din ang ginawa ko on a monthly basis. First the rim and tires last January, then this month eh yung shifters naman. at this point the actual cost of my bike is now at 5K pa lang. I was planning to upgrade the gears and brakes next month but, I was advised by the bike shop owner to stop the upgrade, save up and buy a better bike instead. He showed me something at around 10-12K bike, from his description it has an alloy frame, shimano shifters, disc brakes, etc... I guess the standard components for a 10-12K bike. Though, the problem is that the frame and the rims/tires of the bike looks a lot bigger compared to what I originally bought at 2K. I'm more worried of riding that 12K bike than my 2K bike. The question is, should I go with the upgrades or listen to the bike shop owner? And should I separate this question in another topic? Thanks, Jules

i think you should listen. . . upgrading each part would only cost you a lot more. . . buy the best that your money could afford. . . or better yet wait and save up some more. . . still it might be ok to check on our trade central and look for good deals to come up. . . be careful though, not all of them are what it seems.

sir i think there's nothing wrong the way you upgrade your parts, if that's what you think is most convenient for you, the bike owner is suggesting that in the long run, buying 10k-12k bike would help you save more bcoz you won't change the parts anymore, in your case, at 5k, yours is half the price of what the owner is suggesting, and if youre happy with it, you're doing fine, but if not, i think the owner has a point...but i guess now that you have your bike, just enjoy your rides....
ride safe!

@jules - you know what? i saw myself in you. dyan din ako nag-start, i bought a bike last Dec '09 worth 3k then i started na biking sa antipolo, teresa, hilltop, cogeo, tanay etc. ang trip ko kasi yung puro paakyat (imagine a bike worth 3k eh kinaya yung mga ganun without replacing any parts) but as you go along, mararamdaman mo yung "upgraditis" na tinatawag specially if you are reading sa mga forums. now i already have a new MTB (it is posted here just search "K2 Bayside") and the feeling was totally different. sobrang gaan ng upgraded MTB. but if were you, sulitin mo muna yang 1st bike mo i suggest na i-try mo yung mga pataas na daan. para if you bought an upgraded MTB papanisin mo na lang ang mga susunod mong trailings.
Ride safely, wear helmet!

yup! thanks to pmtb, nahawaan din ako ng "upgradatitis". Latest upgrade is the Hub/Sprocket from 6speed to 8speed. Nangyari yun kasi yung pinalit ko na shifter eh 8speed and with the 6speed sprocket comes really bad biking/shifting experience.
I hope this will be the last one that I need to upgrade for a smooth ride. Total bike cost is now at 8K (from 1st buy to the last upgrades). Ngayon, ipon mode na ko for a decent 20-25K MT o Road Bike na. ![]() Thanks pmtb, more power ![]() Jules
