Default right angle for brake lever and shifter

gud day mga sir at mam. ask ko lang po what is the right angle for the brake lever sa handle bars? kasi some of the bike commuters use it lean forward and some lean backwArds. since newbie po ako im kinda confused. i dont know the advantage or disadvantage of proper mounting the lever what i thought is basta u can reach and squeeze the lever ok na un.

The SRAM manual advises that the face of the small paddle shifter be oriented vertically wrt to ground

And then I just let the brake levers follow suit (nakapatong sa shifters)

Pero tama ka. Basta kaya mong pisilin, tama yun

Baka kung anu anu pinipisil mo TS.. Joke . . .

Tama ka dun TS, any angle will do basta kaya pisilin . . And nakakangawit talaga pumisil kung madalas mo gamitin . . Lalo na sa downhills kapag hindi ka pa sanay pumisil ng tama . . . Yung hydro pinakamasarap pisilin, 1 finger lang . .

teka nagkaka pisilan na

you must be comfortable pressing the brake levers in the sitting AND standing position, without losing grip of the handlebar.

Angle of the shifters/brake levers should let your hands stay straight vis-a-vis your arms at your usual riding position.

we're all built differently, with different bike setup and riding styles. as nordstern mentioned "whatever is comfortable for you". for your starting point: set your seat height to your normal riding position, sit down and place hands on grips in normal position, close your eyes, then reach for the brake levers. that should be the best placement for you. micro-adjust as necessary from that point. set your shifter after the levers. that's one way, there are many others methods.

The reason some people put their brake levers a little farther in the handlebar is because they don't need to use all their fingers to brake. Using a good hydraulic brake you can use just your index finger to brake. So you can shift the lever inside and just "touch" the end of the brake lever.

Different disciplines have different angles. But here's what I do. I hold my handlebar the way I normally do (i.e. the most comfortable position for me and possibly the one that I use most of the time). From this position, I adjust the brake levers to an angle that does not require me to twist my hand to reach the lever. For example, if you put the lever to horizontal wrt to the ground, you may need to move your hand position down a bit just to hook the lever. If you put it too vertical then you may need to shift your grip forward. In either case, there should be no need to shift your hand position.

pero (as a newbie opinion), parang may effect yung angle sa shifter and brake cables.

so the effect would dictate the angle. siguro timpla timpla na lang or if u found an angle na madali pisilin ung shifter/brake lever pero hindi naman comfortable, you should work on the cable naman and keep the angle. sa akin kasi nagbawas ako ng cable housing to accommodate my prefered angle

read this in mba a couple of times na. while on your normal sitting position, note the angle your arms make when they're on the grips. extending your fingers on that angle helps. next, check the angle in the same way when you are standing. then position your levers in between the 2 angles and that should be it or maybe make it as a starting point.

this setup is of course for the regular trail rider. if you're a downhiller who hardly sits down, your angle should lean towards your standing position. vice versa if you sit all the time.

Brake levers have reach adjustment.

Re: bakit ngayon mahirap ishift ang RD goin to Largest Cog.

Most likely your cable have elongated or your cable housing was compressed. It happens, normal lang yun. So if shifting is not precise or it has some delay, turn your barrel adjuster (shifter or RD) 1 click at a time counter-clockwise, until maging precise na yung shifting. You have to spin your crank while doing this. If the RD doesn't climb to the biggest cog, using a philips screwdriver, turn counter clockwise your RDs limitscrew (L-Screw) until your chain climbs your biggest cog. Be careful not to loosen the screw too much, otherwise, the chain will fall off your wheeset and could lead to damaged spokes.

Sit on your saddle, hold the handle bars and extend your fingers, i-align mo ung brake levers to your fingers and higpitan mo na. Usually kasi pag-di tama ung angle ng brake levers and shifters, your hand will feel numb.

lam ko the trick is in the cable routing e. i had the same problem once ginawa ko nagbawas ako ng cable housing. pero baka naman masyado short na yung matira sa housing mahirap naman iliko. sa hydro bakes no issues naman ata sa routing.

by the way jun, when yun say lever is vertical does it mean perpendicular sa ground? as in 270 deg.? if that's the case parang ang hirap ata gamitin ng brake levers. inimagine ko pa lang sumakit na wrist ko eor baka naman mali intindi ko opinyon lang sir

Merry Christmas to all pala

actual length will vary with your frame. I suggest you take it to a reputable mechanic. but if you must do it on your own... get it just long enough so that when you turn your handlebars they do not get in your way.
