Talking clang noise when derailleur hits chain stay

Hello. I'm a newbie and I just bought a jamis trail x3. Is it normal for the rear derailleur to hit the chain stay producing a clanging noise everytime the rear wheel hit a pothole, for example, or dropping from a stair step? Any solution to get rid of this noise?
Many thanks.

Then i realized that its the chain hittng the chain ring. Lalo na pag naga middle ring ako. Will try shortening the chain to make it tighter. Is there a rule of thumb regarding sa length ng chain? tnx

are you sure it's the RD that's hitting the chainstay? or is it just the chain, as the others have suggested?

if it's the latter, you'll have to rename your thread title, kasi misleading.

im not a real bike guru ha, pero i think masyadong mataas yung arm ng RD mo. try loosening it then rotate mo yung buong RD ng clockwise (the word deore 2010 on your RD will be read from top to bottom).

Sir,
Try to adjust the B-tension screw. It will move your RD/pulley away from the cogs. And may give you enough clearance on the chainstay. Also this will give more tension on the RD spring which could lessen the "clang". =)

Problem solved!
I adjusted the b-tension screw as suggested by ezrydre.
Many thanks to all who replied.
